Stuart Hannagan began his career in 1982 as a staff photographer for News Ltd.
From 1987-1993 Hannagan worked for the Melbourne AGE as a Sports Photographer, later taking a different position as Picture Editor with the same company from 1993-1999.
Since 1999, he has been on board with Getty Images as Vice President, Australasia & Director of Photography for the Asia Pacific region. Hannagan specializes in sports photography and has covered many sporting events including over five Olympic Games, Wimbledon, the World Athletics for three years, and the Cricket World Cup in Australia. Aside from sports photography, Hannagan has also taken local, political, and international news including Pope’s tours, Australian Federal Elections, and the Australian bushfires.
Hannagan has received top recognition for his work, which includes winning AFL photographer of the year title 5 times; winner of the World Press Photo of the Year in 1985; Australian PGA’s Golf Picture of the year; Kodak sports Photo of the year twice; and the Adidas sports photo of the year in 1990.
Hannagan currently resides in his hometown of Sydney, Australia.
