Julie Millowick began her career in the darkroom of Athol Shmith, John Cato and Peter Barr, gradually working her way out into the light.
Since completing her undergraduate training at Prahran College of Advanced Education (1976), Julie has constantly worked in photography across documentary, exhibitions and corporate.
Julie believes passionately in the power of the photographic image to change lives and she brings that philosophy to her role as Senior Lecturer, Online Photojournalism, La Trobe University.
As a member of MAP (Many Australian Photographers), Julie constantly works on diverse documentary projects, including Beyond Reasonable Drought – a visual statement about the impact of the 12 year drought on the Australian environment and the psyche of the nation.
Julie has work in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, The National Library of Australia, Monash Gallery of Art, State Library of Victoria and the Regional Art Galleries of Horsham, Bendigo, Castlemaine and Warrnambool.
Julie is on the Board of the Bendigo Art Gallery, Regional Arts Victoria, and the Castlemaine State Festival .
