Olmos was born in 1973 in Arequipa, Peru. He is a photographer and curator of FOLi – Museo de la Fotografia Lima. FOLi is the first independent and dedicated museum of contemporary photography in South America, to open in Lima in the second half 2012.
Olmos holds a MA in Photography and Urban Cultures from Goldsmiths College, University of London and an MSc in Organisational and Social Psychology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His interests include sociology, cultural studies and visual arts theory. Including participatory audiovisual research, visual anthropology, cultural theory and representation of the city. In addition, Gonzalo Olmos is a research associate at The London Multimedia Lab for Audiovisual Composition and Communication is a research unit of the Institute of Social Psychology at the London School of Economics (LSE).
Personal photography exhibitions include: Canning House and the Hispanic Luso Brasilian Council, London; The Old Police Station, Amersham Vale, New Cross, London; Espacio Exhibe Gallery, Barranco, Lima; The Tavistock Centre in London. His work is in personal and institutional collections of Lima, Athens and London.
